Long before Hollywood, this sizzling legal drama from the masterful Aaron Sorkin dominated Broadway, and now court is in session at the Live Oak Theater in Berkeley for The Royal Underground's comeback season. One misfit US Marine is dead, two others stand accused of killing him, and the whole corps is on trial as a team of young military lawyers uncover a sinister conspiracy in this gripping judicial thriller.

Inspired by actual events at Guantanamo Bay in 1986, this “brilliant, intelligent, cutting, shivering and even nasty script” (The Independent) sparkles with the signature quickfire repartee of Sorkin’s screen hits The West Wing, The Newsroom and The Social Network.

A Few Good Men tears into the toxic internal culture of the United States military, exposing the danger of a system that prizes unquestioning loyalty over moral courage and wraps its worst impulses in the language of patriotism. At a time when this country still wrestles with power, gender, leadership, and the ease with which “love of country” can be twisted into justification for something far more vicious, the play feels less like a period piece and more like a warning. Directed by Enrico Banson, a formidable company of Bay Area stage veterans and standout performers brings this electrifying courtroom tour-de-force to life. Can you handle the truth?

"Enormously entertaining."
— New York Daily News

"Sorkin is the ratatat duke of dialogue, reigning king of the walk–and–talk."
— Entertainment Weekly

Content Advisory: A Few Good Men contains mature themes, including strong language, references to violence and suicide, hazing, abuse of power, and intense depictions of moral and institutional conflict within a military setting. This production also features imitation firearms, sudden loud sound effects, and flashing lights. Recommended for ages 15 and up.

A Few Good Men is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.

The Royal Underground Theatre Company

We began as a nomadic theatre company in San Francisco at the start of the millennium, eventually finding a creative home at Fort Mason’s Southside Theatre. Over the years, the arts have faced enormous challenges, from shifting cultural priorities to the devastating impact of the pandemic. Through it all, we have continued to create and to persevere, fueled by the belief that bold theatre matters. Today, we return with renewed purpose to build a permanent space for Bay Area actors to take on daring, exhilarating work at a standard that feels fully professional, powered by the spirit and commitment of a volunteer ensemble. Our goal is to give audiences the kind of transformative theatrical experiences that stay with them long after the curtain falls.
